I think most of you already have seen this one. It was up for the people award at Interaction12 and won. I can see why. It's a very neat project exploring how we can design mobiles for elderly people. Is not just a neat concept it's also seems have been an awesome project digging deep into peoples behaviors and what they really want and look for as a user group. They discovered that the user group didn't want a "simple" mobile, they wanted better instructions how to use a normal one. So the design team made a new form of manual. Great work from the guys at Vitamins Design. They also talked about their design process behind the idea, a link to the presentation and video will (hopefully) shortly be available on their website.

Pearl Bracelets with Ribbons

The other day we had one of our get-togethers when we make stuff. Most people knit but you can do what ever you want or just hang out, have some tea and cake. This monday I did bracelets. I did one with blue ribbon and white pearls and one with pink ribbon and grey-brown pearls. It was really easy and look so nice in the end.
See how it is made here, it's in Russia bit with google translate everything is possible. I just looked at the pictures, they explained it all.

I've been waiting for an article like this, that talks about what gamification in interaction design really have come to. I also like the graph that he is showing pointing out that things take time before it can de adopted by other fields. I think games are great and I love playing games for hours, but I have had a hard time to see the a good merge between interaction design advertising, learning and games that everybody seems so enthusiastic about. I wish he had written more on the subject.

For a long time I have not been friend's with Twitter. I have found it annoying! Too many posts that doesn't interests me. I don't have it open all the time and when I do, I have 2200 new tweets to look at, which make me close it as fast as I open it. All the short URL:s make it even harder to understand if people share something that I will find interesting or not, which make me not click anything. A short URL like this: http://alturl.com/7yxdw doesn't tell me anything about the content. What annoys me more is when people shorten an URL that's already short.

Compare http://tosabiten.blogspot.com/ with http://alturl.com/7yxdw.The first one has 30 characters the second one have 23. If you have characters left, why shorten things that doesn't needs to be shorten? And when people then only write comments like - "interesting read", or "ha ha look at this". I have no clue if it's cats in pyjamas a 10 page long article about design value in responsive design.

But!
(there's always a but, isn't there?)
I am a living proof that people can change if they got things that are adapted to their needs. My co-worker J.Å introduced me to Yoono. Which is a little gadget for Firefox (and a beta for chrome) where you can add different accounts and get instant updates on whats going on. (I know this is not the only one there is but it works for me.)

Now, when I have my twitter feed in small doses in a media that I prefere it works, and I can see the benefits of it. It also shows small previews of some of the links. It could be better but I like it.
Once again it's important to know your user and to make something really work, adapt the program/product/system to the user. Not the other way around. So many times I tried to work with Twitter, and with TweetDeck and other notifications programs but non that suited me. It always ended with that I never ever used it more then a day. This works for me, and I will keep it. It's the perfect one for one of my work computers.

My friend P.B tweeted about this funny little chrome widget. It makes you snooze a site for at set time. I think this could be good for me. I always have a lot of tab with things I would like to read or save for later but don't have the time or the energy to do it right now. Then I could snooze things and take care of them later, and get a bit more space in my browser and fewer tabs. I don't want to save them just as a link or in my bookmarks because then I never go back and they will just lay there and collect dust. I'll try for a while and see where it takes me! Get it here!

I been thinking if I should do something with vinyl records. I do like both the bowls you can make and the bookends. My friend F.S showed me the bookends and I also know that he have made some himself.

Here's some Do it yourself inspiration I found over the last days. Some of it I may do, some of it is just inspiration. Any way, I will go home to my parents this weekend and see what I can do!

I found this from Apartment therapy, and I feel like doing a shelf something like that. Not sure about the lighting but I'll think about it. The reason why I started to look for glas things was that I discovered that glas is so much cheaper then plastic, weird isn't?

At this time of the year I guess no one has missed the little Christmas/winter pranks that can be found around Google's sites?
If you google "Let it snow" your screen will be filled with snowflakes and you will have to Defrost it. This is just for Firefox and Chrome users (perhaps Safari too). Not even going to say anything about Explorer users.

If you visit YouTube you will notice that you actually can see a lot of your favorite videos through a snowfall by activating the snowflake-button. Let it snow for a while and you will end up with a pile of snow at the bottom of the video. Very christmasis - I like!

At the museu da Vida you find this interactive wall of the periodic system of elements. What I liked the most was that you can interact with it both physical and digital. At first I only saw the QR-codes and it made me a bit nervous, but they have used the sides of the cubes very effective. One shows the name, on a picture of the element, one a picture of a everyday product were you can find the element, one side with the atomic build of the element and one side with the QR-code. If you don't want to scan it with you phone, just put it in the slot beside a screen and the information will be shown for you.

I have to excuse myself for being so bad at blogging lately, but all my energy have gone to try to find somewhere to live in January. Now, finally, two days before Christmas eve I got the news that I can rent a nice apartment in the central of Gothenburg. It's not a first hand contract but it doesn't matter to me. The apartment is really nice and I got somewhere to live, hopefully the whole of next year! Yihaa!
Now that I have celebrated a wonderful Christmas with my family I will be back in business and keep you posted with new nice things! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas too!

The arrows show how much money is owed by each country to banks in other nations. The arrows point from the debtor to the creditor and are proportional to the money owed as of the end of June 2011. Read of the day: Staying strong under stress by Scott Belsky.

An interesting read and some good tips about stress.

For example - do you have an emergency plan? When the disaster happens its hard to make good decision therefore it can be good to have a planed made in advance. For example, if your site goes down, who do you call first, what action should be made first.

We also tend to isolate ourself and be defensive when in stress, instead it's those times is more important then ever to listen to our colleagues.

I will certainly go back to this read the next time I will do an experience map.

Review - Spotify Apps

Today I have tried some of the existing spotify apps.
The first thing you have to do is to download the beta version that you can find here - http://www.spotify.com/se/download/previews/. This took me some time to understand because if you look at the comercial on the official spotify site you got the feeling that all you have to do is to upgrade to the newest version. That is not true. But hopefully it will be out for everybody any day now.
When you install the beta version make sure you don't have spotify open, or you will, like me, get a error message saying it can't be installed. Perhaps most people do know that you have to close down the program if its open, but I forgot and the error message didn't tell me anything about this. Thank you N.Å for helping me, both installing and showing me the beta!
Anyhow!

Apps is presented in the left menu, when you click on App Finder you'll see the all the apps that are available. At the moment there are 12 different apps you can choose from. Just click on the add button and the app is added instantly. Very fast, very nice. I think you remove them by right clicking them in the left menu and choose remove...

TuneWiki - Play a song, click on TuneWiki on the apps tab and sing a long. Some songs works better then others. It works very well sometimes, I listened to Krossa alla fönster av Svenska Björnstammen - worked perfectly. But when I put on one of my favorites from Buena Vistas Social Club, it some how translated half of the spanish words, leaving me with a very confusing end results.

We Are Hunted - A great site that follows the buzz to find whats hot and what people are listening at the moment. Unfortunately in the presentation of the app it doesn't say anything about this. Again I have a feeling that you need to know some background of the different apps to really get whats so good about it.
It's possible to play every single track by clicking on the play button on them, and if you like to add them to one of your playlist just drag and drop them. Nice.

Mood playlist - By setting your mode, the app will generate a playlist that will "fit" that mode. I don't really understand how it does this... It's also possible to add a special song of your choice and then it generates a playlist from this. From the beginning I thought it would pick songs from my own playlist but it seems to be all new songs. This is one of those apps when it's a little hard to understand how it works. I downloaded the Iphone app for this one, which had much better instructions, unfortunately it was only compatible with iTunes so far, and who have any songs in Itunes? ;)

At the moment I'm missing some more information about what the different apps actually are doing. The line "Ett enklare och underhållande sätt att upptäcka ny musik" or "Music sound better with friends" are not really telling me what the app is good for. I guess this will later envolve into something like appstore with ratings and recommendations that will make it easier for people like me that like when you can sort by most downloaded or highest ranked.

Even if I think they managed to have a good variety of apps, there's slightly more on - finding new music that sounds like stuff you already like - or - find music through your friends.
I wouldn't be surprised if it would be a boom of this kinds of apps the the beginning. Hopefully we will see some more creativity in the long run.

Overall - I'm very impressed on the way Spotify has taken this, to include and open up for apps was a great thing to do and hopefully this will make them even more popular so no more music labels will drop out. It's easy to use, quick to install, but to make it really stick I think we need some more creative apps, hopefully it's just a matter of time!

It starts with this video and then the luther explains whats wrong with this prediction. And I agree with him. There's not that much new and exiting in it, or maybe I should say that's the film predicts a very close future, I can see a lot of those things happen soon.
The rest of the article discusses how we should use technology in another way then just sliding interfaces, our hands are much more complex then that.
